Kitten Snatchers is a volunteer-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing Philadelphia's stray cats and kittens. Founded in 2020, we provide foster homes to cats found on the street or surrendered to ACCT, and we care for them until they can find their "fur"ever homes.
Our success is only made possible thanks to the hard work of our team of experienced and new fosters who open their homes to cats in need.
Approval can take up to 5 days. Once we have everything we need, we will reach out to you and help you find your perfect little companion.
We cannot save any animals without fosters. You are the real heroes!
Can you open your home temporarily for one of Philadelphia's strays?
I am Kat - born and raised in Germany and moved to Philadelphia in 2015. Growing up in the German countryside, my love for animals was always there. I grew up milking cows, playing with cats, dogs, birds, pigs, goats, bunnies - even had a goat I was walking on a leash on a daily basis as a child.
Growing up, I lost touch with that side of me for a while until my first "Bijou" fell in my lap. I found her crying behind a dumpster at 6 weeks old, full of fleas, anemic with a high fever. Took her to the vet and nursed her back to health. After that, I was hooked.
I adopted a playmate, which I lost to FIP 5 months later. Then adopted another playmate and another - started fostering for one of the big rescues and foster failed 3 times. Five years later, I have 6 cats of my own - 2 medical cases and one baby I raised with the bottle against all odds since day 1. I have touched the life of, fostered and bottlefed more than 400 animals and cared for many sick cats.
Starting the Kitten Snatchers rescue was the natural next step for me and my dear friend Somer!
I’m Somer. I grew up in a small town in upstate NY. Ever since I was a baby my family always had pets. As a teenager I would always find stray or injured animals and bring them home to my parents.
I always longed for a cat and when I was 16 my wish came true when a sweet stray started coming to our home (way out in the country). We knew nothing about cats but this sweet calico girl we called kitty quickly taught us by having 3 babies in my bed while I slept!
I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t have a furry friend. My husband and I currently have 3 cats and 2 Yorkies (all rescues) and 4 out of the 5 were foster fails (wins).
I began fostering in 2017 and have fostered, saved, or worked with, hundreds of animals. My girl Kat and I started this rescue when we were trapping nice cats and kittens and struggled to find placement. We decided we could do this and together we’ve changed the lives of almost 300 of Philadelphia’s “throw away” cats in only 10 short months!
I grew up in central Jersey and have been living in Philadelphia the last 10 years. I have had animals of all types my entire life, in fact I can't remember a time I didn't have at least one cat.
In some sense I've always helped animals find homes but in 2019 I found a pregnant cat which I fostered and foster failed. I started fostering through Kitten Snatchers in October 2020. Since then I've had over a hundred fosters through my home.
Fostering has been the best thing I've ever done for my mental health and being a part of the Kitten Snatchers team is very important to me. Helping voiceless creatures find safe and loving homes is so rewarding and teaches my son compassion and responsibility for animals.
Currently I have 6 resident cats and a constant mix of Kitten Snatchers fosters. I'm excited to help usher them and all their successors into their new lives.
Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. As a child, I always loved and wanted a cat of my own; however, I was always told “no” by my parents. Shortly after getting married, 23 years ago, I adopted my first two cats. Since then, we have welcomed several cats and dogs into our home. In 2023, we sadly lost one of our cats to renal failure, and since we had not adopted a pet in a while, we decided it was time to honor our past furry family members with a new kitten, and this led me to find Samara on Kitten Snatchers. Samara fit right in, but we wanted to get her a friend who could match her energy, so we also adopted Sioban in 2024 followed by her mom Niamh just a few months ago.
Now that my furry family is complete, I love helping Kitten Snatchers, as an adoption coordinator, to assist them with all of the wonderful things they do for the homeless cats and kittens in Philadelphia and helping others complete their families.
Dyed-in-the-wool dog person for decades until I was adopted by my first cat in 2012. Clapton converted me. As I researched how to best care for him, understand feline behaviour, and what to feed him, I also learned the plight of so many cats.
When I moved to Philly, I started to volunteer with rescues and a low cost spay/neuter clinic. Fostering led to trapping and adopting out cats on my own. Perusing social media, I found Kitten Snatchers and applied to foster. I adopted my first KS foster and first ever foster fail, Freddie Mercury. Helping with adoption applications is satisfying and full of so much joy as once-forgotten cats go to loving homes.
I have a soft spot for the seniors. I share my home with 3 seniors: Layla (14), Freddie Mercury (11), and Pookie (16).
Named after my grandmother Marie, an epic librarian cat rescuer, I’ve always felt destined to continue her legacy of compassion for cats and a love of reading. Growing up with many pets, I learned early on the deep bond that forms between humans and animals. My childhood pet companions were my best friends, and this connection shaped my lifelong commitment to animal welfare.
As an adult, I adopted my first cat, DJ Bucatini, from Kitten Snatchers—and they snatched me! Since then, I have fostered around 100 cats and met so many wonderful people along the way. My journey has deepened my passion for helping cats find their forever homes and supporting the communities that care for them.
I have always connected with and cared for animals, often volunteering my time at dog and horse rescues since I was a tween! I didn’t start my journey to becoming a crazy cat lady until I rescued my soul cat, Olive in 2016, and I’ve never looked back!
I moved to Philadelphia in 2022 and became immediately aware of the stray cat crisis when I began to meet all the neighborhood cats that showed up on my block. I adopted my sweet Boba Fett (Bobatini) from Kitten Snatcher’s MVP foster Marie to complete our rat pack (shout out to my other greybies Nugget and Goose!)
As more friendly cats showed up at my door, Kitten Snatchers accepted them into their care with open arms. Once I met this incredible team, I knew I wanted to help my new community however I can!
I grew up having many family pets – cats, dogs, hamsters, birds, frogs, you name it — and all of our cats were strays who wandered in off the streets. From an early age, this definitely shaped my awareness that there are lots of cats in need. My current collection of four cats are a mix of adopted, found orphan kittens, and bottle-fed foster fails. My dog, a Shiba Inu, loves her kitty companions and is an A-plus foster mama.
I’ve always surrounded myself with animals, such as working as a kennel worker during college or living my childhood dream of horseback riding finally as an adult. I took the leap to start fostering in spring 2023 with a bottle-fed litter. Since then I've joined Kitten Snatchers and I haven't looked back. I had nearly 20 cats in my house during kitten season! My favorite fosters are bottle-fed babies — I love to nurture them and shape their early experiences as positive ones.
Professionally, I am a graphic designer and web developer and aim to use my skills to help Kitten Snatchers with their online presence. I grew up right outside Philadelphia and have been officially a Philly resident since 2014.
